Sunday April 11th, 2010: relaxation and gentle movement for de-stressing
- 3pm to 4.30pm, Hummingbird Pilates Centre (www.hummingbirdpilates.co.uk).
Open to all, this 90-minute class will be suitable for everyone, including older people. We will begin with some gentle movement and stretching, designed to energise and loosen the body. This will be followed by a longer session that will combine sitting and lying down, during which we will focus on simple techniques for breathing, de-stresssing and relaxing.

A little on the importance of relaxation:
So why relax? Stress levels in today's society are at an all-time high, and most of us are with with constantly raised cortisol/stress levels - often without realising it.
For others, symptoms such as worrying all the time, high blood pressure or panic attacks can mean that stress levels are at a dangerous level. In fact, it is now believed that up to 90% of serious illness (including heart disease and cancer) is linked to stress.
Worryingly, between 75% to 90% of all visits to the GP are related to stress in some way.
In these monthly relaxation sessions, we will learn some accessible, straightforward techniques (such as breathing deeply and fully) to re-learn how to relax, and therefore live to our full potential.
